The temple stands on the edge of a seventy-metre cliff at the south-west tip of the Bukit peninsula. It dates from the eleventh century and, like Tanah Lot, guards one of the island's cardinal points against spirits coming off the sea.
The path runs along the cliff for a few hundred metres either side: that is where you go, rather than into the compound, which is closed to non-Hindus. A kecak dance is performed every evening in the amphitheatre above the drop, at sunset.
Getting there
An hour's drive from Seminyak, thirty minutes from Jimbaran. No regular service: scooter or a car with a driver.
