The Than Sadet stream runs down from the interior of Koh Phangan to the east coast, in a series of pools and small falls. Its interest is historical as much as natural.
Rama V came here fourteen times between 1888 and 1909 and had his initials carved into a boulder in the streambed. Rama VI and Rama VII did the same. The stream's name means 'the watercourse of the royal visit', and the site is protected for that reason — the carvings are visible from the path.
Getting there
East coast of Koh Phangan, forty minutes by scooter from Thong Sala. The last few kilometres are very steep.

Rules on site
The access road has extremely steep concrete gradients, a common cause of scooter accidents on the island: if you are not confident, take a taxi. The flow is weak in the dry season.
