My Khe is a straight beach of fine sand running some thirty kilometres along Da Nang. American servicemen nicknamed it China Beach and came here on leave, which earned it a television series and a name that was never its own.
It is wide, public along its whole length, and lined with a promenade. Swimming is supervised at busy hours, with flags and marked zones — which is not common in Vietnam.
Getting there
East of Da Nang, across the Han river. Ten minutes by taxi or scooter from the city centre.
What to bring
- Swimsuit
- International driving permit
Rules on site
From September to December the sea gets up and the rip currents are dangerous: the red flags are not decorative. The sand is scorching in the middle of the day and there is no natural shade.
