The French created Ba Na in 1919 as a hill station to escape the coastal heat, and built over two hundred villas here, now ruins. The site reopened in the 2000s on an entirely different premise.
What is there now is a mountaintop park: a mock French village, gardens, a funicular and the Golden Bridge. The cable car up holds several records for length and vertical rise, and the twenty-minute climb above the forest is the best part of the visit.
Getting there
Thirty-five kilometres west of Da Nang, an hour by road, then the cable car. Organised shuttles from Da Nang and Hoi An.
Hours
Cable car 8am – 10pm
What the price covers
return cable car for an out-of-province visitor, adult over 1.40 m. 800,000 ₫ for children from 1 m to 1.40 m and for over-70s, with a reduced rate for Da Nang residents on production of an ID card. The Light Museum, Debay cellar, alpine coaster and 10D cinema are not included.
What to bring
- Cap
- 1.5 L of water
How to pay less
The cable car ticket is bought at the counter early in the morning: the agencies' transport supplement often doubles the price.
Rules on site
The summit is in cloud much of the year and is ten to fifteen degrees colder than below: bring a jacket. The site fills from ten o'clock, and the cable car queues then run over an hour.
