At low tide the retreating water uncovers a volcanic rock shelf hollowed into pools, one of them several metres deep, where people jump from the rim. At high tide there is nothing to see: the sea covers all of it.
So this is a place you plan by the clock, not by the day. The useful window runs about three hours around low water, and the local tide tables are posted at the site entrance and in the General Luna guesthouses.
Getting there
Thirty kilometres north of General Luna on the coast road, about an hour by scooter. An entry fee is paid in Pilar village.
What the price covers
a small entry fee, rate to be confirmed on site
What to bring
- Reef shoes
- Swimsuit
- International driving permit
Rules on site
Coming at high tide is coming for nothing: check the tide table the day before. The rock is sharp and weed-covered; water shoes save you the cuts.
