Cloud 9 is a fast, straight barrel breaking over shallow reef at Tuason Point. The wooden jetty running out over the lagoon is not a swimming pier: it was built for judging contests, and it is the best vantage point on the island.
The wave is not a beginner's. The reef is under a metre in places, and a fall there is paid for in cuts. The learning spots are elsewhere — Jacking Horse, next door, breaks on sand and forgives.
Getting there
Nine kilometres north of General Luna on the Tuason road. Scooter or tricycle from town, twenty minutes.
What to bring
- Reef shoes
- Swimsuit
- Board
- International driving permit
Rules on site
Sharp reef under very little water: booties and a first-aid kit. The swell is biggest from September to November, and the spot is then for experienced surfers only.
