Diamond Beach is a white sand cove at the foot of a cliff on Nusa Penida's east coast, with limestone stacks standing in turquoise water just offshore.
It was unreachable before 2018: a local man cut a staircase into the cliff by hand, and that is how you get down. The steps are steep and carved straight into the rock, with a rope as a handrail. From the top you also see Atuh Beach, its neighbour, in the same notch.
Getting there
East coast of Nusa Penida, an hour and a half by scooter from Toyapakeh on difficult roads.
What the price covers
paid entry and parking, rates to be confirmed
What to bring
- Walking shoes
- International driving permit
Rules on site
The stairway is steep, hand-cut and slippery in wet weather: the rope is the only protection. Swimming is dangerous — the current pulls seaward and there is no rescue service.
