The luggage transfer services between Da Nang and Hue cost a few hundred thousand dong and make the pass doable one way, with no need to double back for your bags: that is what turns a ride into a journey. Leave early — the cloud comes up late morning.

Take the first cable car and go straight to the Golden Bridge: by ten you shuffle across it. The twenty-minute ride above the forest is the best part of the day; the mock French village at the top does not justify the hour's drive on its own.
