Hat Sai Khao, the white sand beach, runs for nearly three kilometres along Koh Chang's west coast. It is the island's longest and busiest, with a single road behind it and forested mountain rising directly above.
Koh Chang is Thailand's second largest island and is still more than seventy per cent jungle: the beach ends at rocks north and south, behind which the forest starts again at once. The sun sets straight down its axis.
Getting there
On the west coast, twenty minutes by songthaew from the ferry pier. Shared songthaews leave when full.
Rules on site
The rip current is strong on the ebb in front of the northern section, and there are no lifeguards. The road behind the beach has no pavement and is unlit at night.
