Bang Bao sits in a closed bay at the south-west of Koh Chang, and the whole village is built on stilts along a single seven-hundred-metre wooden jetty running out into the water.
It was a fishing port and is still half one: the boats come in each morning, and the restaurants along the jetty serve what has just been landed, from open tanks. The other half lives off the boat trips to the southern islets, which all leave from here.
Getting there
At the island's south-west tip, at the end of the coast road. Thirty minutes by songthaew from White Sand Beach.
Rules on site
The jetty planks are gapped in places and there is no continuous handrail: take care with small children. Fish is sold by weight — have it weighed in front of you.
