Klong Plu is Koh Chang's tallest waterfall and the only one reachable without real effort: a drop of some twenty metres into a deep pool at the bottom of a wooded gorge.
A six-hundred-metre trail leads there through the national park's old-growth forest, first on boardwalk then on stone. Swimming in the pool is allowed, and river catfish come to nibble at your feet — this is a reserve, and they are not to be fed.
Getting there
Park entrance at Khlong Prao, midway down the west coast. Ten minutes by scooter from White Sand Beach, then the trail.
What the price covers
national park entry fee, rate to be checked with the ranger
Rules on site
The flow drops to almost nothing at the end of the dry season, February to April: the falls are then not worth the trip. The rocks around the pool are algae-covered and very slippery.
