The two falls share a name and are nothing alike. Na Muang 1 is metres from the road, an eighteen-metre drop with a pool you can swim in — open to anyone.
Na Muang 2 is thirty metres and needs half an hour's climb on a path of earth and roots. It is the finer of the two, and the busier late in the day. The flow depends entirely on the season: from January to April there is often only a trickle.
Getting there
In the middle of the island, off route 4169. Twenty minutes by scooter from Lamai or Nathon.
What to bring
- Walking shoes
- Swimsuit
- International driving permit
Rules on site
The path to the second fall is earth and roots and very slippery after rain: closed shoes. Touts at the entrance offer elephant rides — the nearest ethical sanctuary is not that one.
