To confirm
The museum shows the excavations of Perge, a Roman city eighteen kilometres away, and its hall of emperors lines up marble statues in exceptional condition.
The piece that made its name is the Weary Herakles: its upper half had been smuggled out of the country and displayed in Boston for decades, while the lower half stayed here. Turkey secured its return in 2011, and the two pieces were reunited — a landmark case in the antiquities trade.
