The Malecón is a chain of parks running about ten kilometres along an eighty-metre cliff that drops straight to the Pacific. Lima is built on that terrace, and the cliff is cemented shingle, unstable — it is shored up and monitored continuously.
The Parque del Amor, with its sculpture of two entwined lovers and its Gaudí-style mosaic walls, is its best-known point. Paragliders launch from the cliff all year: the thermal wind is constant, and it is one of the few urban flying sites in the world.
Getting there
Along the coast in Miraflores. All on foot or by bike from Parque Kennedy, in the middle of the district.
What to bring
- Reef shoes
- Swimsuit
Rules on site
From June to November the garúa — a permanent coastal fog — covers Lima and cancels the sunset: that is the normal climate, not bad luck. Stay behind the railings; the cliff crumbles regularly.
