The Mele-Maat cascades are a stepped chain of limestone basins, opaque blue from dissolved calcium carbonate. You work up the stream from pool to pool to the main fall, thirty-five metres high.
The site belongs to the village of Mele and is run by it: the entry fee funds the community directly. A made path with ropes runs alongside the pools, and you can swim in most of them on the way up.
Getting there
Ten kilometres west of Port Vila, twenty minutes by road. Local bus or taxi.

Rules on site
The limestone is extremely slippery underwater: water or walking shoes are essential — flip-flops will not hold. Flow and colour drop in the dry season.
