The temple stands on a volcanic outcrop pierced by a natural arch — batu bolong means 'holed rock' — at the end of Canggu beach. A short walkway leads to it from the sand.
It is a working temple, one of the chain of sea temples that guard the south-west coast, and ceremonies are held there regularly. Below it, the Batu Bolong wave breaks over sand and reef: it is Canggu's learners' spot, and the two scenes overlap.
Getting there
At the end of Jalan Pantai Batu Bolong, in Canggu. Scooter parking is charged and fills up at sunset.
