Climbing the Tsutenkaku tower costs money for a view over low rooftops — what you came for is at street level. Order kushikatsu one skewer at a time rather than as a set: a few hundred yen each, and you stop when you want.

FreeOne of the oldest shrines in Japan, with its almost vertical humpback bridge.
Take the Hankai tram from Tennoji rather than the train: one flat fare, and the line runs at street level through the old southern districts. The shrine has no ticket desk and no opening time — you can be there at first light.

You don't eat while walking here: each stall has its own counter corner, and the signs say so. The stalls at the far end, on the Nippombashi side, still supply local restaurants and are noticeably cheaper than those by the entrance.
