Old town

The cruise-call calendar is public: on a day with no ship in, it is a different city. And if you pay for the walls, Fort Lovrijenac is on the same ticket — hardly anyone climbs it, and it is the one place you see the whole old town from.

Mount Srđ

HoursClosed December to March. 9am – 9pm in April, until midnight June to August, 9am – 5pm in November. Last departure thirty minutes before closing.
The zigzag path climbs in an hour and costs nothing. Do it at sunset and ride down if you like.

Banje Beach
FreeShingle facing the walls, the finest view of the city from the water.
Water shoes cost a few euros in any shop near the Ploče gate, and they change the day completely on these pebbles. The public access is right at the eastern end: walk past the beach club and its loungers rather than stopping at the first one offered.

Lokrum Island
Price unconfirmedA wooded reserve ten minutes away by boat, with free-roaming peacocks and a sea to swim in.
Take the first boat and bring water: the island is a captive market and prices follow. The Mrtvo More is small and fills by noon; the flat rocks on the eastern shore swim just as well, with open sea in front and nobody on them.
