Banje is the nearest beach to the old town, five minutes on foot from Ploče Gate. It is shingle, like almost all of the Croatian coast, and the water deepens quickly.
Its value is the angle: from the water you get the walls, the whole old town and Lokrum island behind, in one frame. It is the best view of Dubrovnik, and it is free — part of the beach is taken by a paying club, the rest is public.
Getting there
Five minutes on foot from Ploče Gate, down the steps on the right. The public access is at the eastern end of the beach.
What to bring
- Walking shoes
- Reef shoes
- Dry bag
Rules on site
The shingle hurts barefoot and the water's edge is slippery: water shoes change the day. The beach club takes the middle section and charges for loungers; the public part is at the sides.
