Tel Aviv has around four thousand International Style buildings put up in the 1930s: the largest Bauhaus ensemble in the world, listed by UNESCO in 2003.
The reason is historical: German Jewish architects trained at the Bauhaus fled Germany after 1933 and built here. They adapted the style to the climate — smaller windows to limit heat gain, deep balconies for shade, pilotis to let air through at ground level. Rothschild Boulevard and Bialik Street hold the best examples.
Getting there
Around Rothschild Boulevard, Dizengoff Square and Bialik Street. The district is covered on foot or by hire bike.

Many of the buildings are private apartment blocks: look at them from the street. The Bauhaus Center on Dizengoff Street sells a map and runs a weekly guided walk.
