Telliskivi occupies a railway works built in 1870, left derelict after independence in 1991. The buildings were taken over from 2009 by workshops, design studios and start-ups — Estonia is a very digital country, and the district is its shop window.
It has become Tallinn's creative quarter: monumental murals on the sheds, music venues, restaurants, and the neighbouring Balti Jaam market in the old station warehouses. On Saturday the flea market fills the forecourt.
Getting there
Behind Balti Jaam station, ten minutes on foot from the old town. Tram 1 or 2 to Balti Jaam.
Rules on site
The murals change regularly: what an article shows may be gone. Many businesses close on Monday, and not all the studios are open to the public.
