The Taraw is the limestone ridge rising directly above El Nido town, at two hundred and seventy metres. Its rock is karst eroded into vertical blades as sharp as knives — hence its local reputation, and hence the difficulty.
There are two routes: the sporting climb, which requires gloves and a compulsory guide, and the Canopy Walk, a built platform halfway up, reachable without equipment. The view covers El Nido bay and its islands lined up to the horizon.
Getting there
Starts from El Nido town, on foot. The guide is hired at the foot of the climb and is compulsory for the sporting route.
What the price covers
a local guide is compulsory and charged, rate to be confirmed on site
What to bring
- Reef shoes
- Helmet
Rules on site
The rock is as sharp as glass and a fall means deep cuts: gloves are essential, and never climb without a guide. The Canopy Walk is the sensible option if you are not comfortable scrambling.
