Bai Sao is a bay a kilometre and a half long on Phu Quoc's south-east coast, sheltered from the monsoon winds by the shape of the island. The sand is flour-white and very fine, and the water shelves gently for tens of metres.
It was long hard to reach, at the end of a red laterite track. The road is surfaced now and a few restaurants have set up at the head of the bay, but both ends stay empty on weekdays.
Getting there
South-east of the island, forty minutes by scooter from Duong Dong. No regular service runs there.
Rules on site
From May to October the south-west monsoon spares this coast, but a swell can still get up: there are no lifeguards. Jellyfish are common at the start of the rainy season.
