The market sets up each evening on Bach Dang street, in the island's main town, and runs two hundred metres closed to traffic. Seafood stalls take the first half, with the animals alive in tanks on the pavement.
Phu Quoc lives off two products the market sells everywhere: fish sauce, fermented on the island in wooden vats weighing several tonnes, and pepper, grown in the north and sold in three colours on the same stall — black, red and white, which are the same berry at three stages.
Getting there
Bach Dang street, in the centre of Duong Dong, five minutes on foot from the bridge. Everything is walkable once there.
Rules on site
Fish is sold by weight and the price is stated before cooking: have it weighed in front of you. Prices in dong are easy to misread when tired — count the zeros.
