Rainbow Street crosses Jabal Amman, one of the city's seven original hills, and is named after a vanished cinema. It is where Amman goes out in the evening: shisha cafés, terraces, bookshops and designer shops.
On Friday mornings from April to September the Souk Jara sets up here — crafts, food, music. From the steps dropping towards downtown you get the citadel opposite and the white stone houses stacked on the hills.
Getting there
On Jabal Amman, above downtown. Taxi from the centre, five minutes; the steps up from downtown take fifteen.
What to bring
- Walking shoes
Rules on site
Friday is the day of rest: many businesses open late, though the Souk Jara fills the morning in season. Parking is impossible in the evening — come by taxi.
