Mu Ko Lanta national park occupies the island's southern tip, around the Laem Tanod lighthouse. It is the only part of Lanta where the original vegetation survives, the rest having been planted with rubber and oil palm.
A two-and-a-half-kilometre trail loops through the jungle from the lighthouse, with viewpoints over the offshore islands. Long-tailed macaques live around the car park and are practised at stealing food. The park's beach, below, is small and sheltered.
Getting there
At the southern tip of Koh Lanta Yai, forty minutes by scooter from Long Beach. The last few kilometres are very steep.
What the price covers
paid national park entry for foreigners, rate to be confirmed
What to bring
- Walking shoes

Rules on site
The access road has very steep concrete gradients, hard on a scooter in the wet and two-up. The macaques open bags: leave nothing visible on the scooter.
