Kunanyi, Mount Wellington, rises one thousand two hundred and seventy-one metres directly above Hobart. The palawa kani name was made official in 2013, in joint use with the English one.
The summit is a dolerite plateau strewn with boulders, with alpine vegetation and a glazed observation shelter. It is twenty minutes' drive from town, and the temperature there is usually ten degrees lower: it can snow in January, in the middle of the southern summer.
Getting there
Twenty minutes by car from Hobart on Pinnacle Road. A regular shuttle runs up from the centre in season.

Rules on site
It is ten degrees colder than in town and the wind is fierce: a proper jacket, even in summer. The road closes regularly for snow or ice, including outside winter — check the status before going up.
