The Lagoon is a bay closed by a sandbar south of Dahab, between the Sinai desert and the Red Sea. The water is flat, shallow for hundreds of metres, and the thermal wind gets up reliably every afternoon.
That combination — flat water, steady wind, a sandy bottom you can stand on — makes it one of the best kitesurfing learning spots in the world. The setting is part of it: bare mountain drops straight into the lagoon, with no vegetation and no building.
Getting there
South of Dahab, ten minutes by taxi from the centre. The kite schools are set up on the shore.

Rules on site
The wind rises in the afternoon and drops in the evening: morning lessons are often cancelled. The Sinai sun is very strong and the water deceptive — a long-sleeved rash vest rather than sunscreen.
