To confirm
The Bora Bora lagoon is closed by a continuous barrier reef, pierced by a single navigable pass, Teavanui. That closure explains everything: the water is calm, warm and shallow over large areas, and the white coral sand floor gives it its colour.
Stingrays and blacktip reef sharks here are used to visitors and come close. Blacktips are a metre and a half long and pose no danger to people; the stingray, on the other hand, carries a venomous barb at the base of its tail, and it is the one to respect.
Getting there
Boat trips from Vaitape or the motu hotels. The lagoon is only covered by boat.

Rules on site
Do not touch the rays or the sharks, and do not feed them: the ray's barb is venomous and the injuries are serious. Shuffle your feet in the sand as you enter the water, so as not to step on a buried ray.
