The Kangaroo Point cliffs are former quarries: rhyolite was cut here in the nineteenth century to build Brisbane, and the twenty-metre vertical face you see is the working face.
They have become the city's urban climbing site, with bolted routes and floodlighting. Below, the boardwalk runs along the river facing the downtown towers, and the cliff itself is lit at night — it is the Brisbane night view.
Getting there
South bank of the river, facing the centre. Cross on the Goodwill Bridge or the Kangaroo Point Bridge, on foot.
What to bring

Rules on site
The clifftop is fenced but the drop is a sheer twenty metres: stay behind the railings. Climbing is done with a club or a guide, and requires your own gear.
