The John-Suwan headland closes Koh Tao's southern tip and separates two near-symmetrical bays, Chalok Baan Kao on one side and Thian Ok on the other. From the top, the two crescents of sand mirror each other across a narrow isthmus.
You climb a private path of ten to fifteen minutes, earth and roots, ending in a short scramble on bare rock. The landowner charges an access fee at the start of the trail — as at almost every viewpoint on the island.
Getting there
The path starts at the south of the island, between Chalok Baan Kao and Thian Ok. Twenty minutes by scooter from Sairee, with a steep final stretch.
What the price covers
a small access fee is charged on the private path, rate to be checked on site
Rules on site
The rock at the top is smooth and turns slippery after rain, with no barrier at the edge. Closed shoes, not flip-flops.
