To confirm
The Mamanucas are some twenty volcanic and coral islets off Nadi, inside a lagoon protected by a barrier reef. Most are tiny and some disappear at high tide.
Modriki, uninhabited, is where Cast Away was filmed in 2000; it has stayed empty and serves as a stop for day trips. The lagoon is shallow and clear, which makes it one of the best places in the region for snorkelling without being a diver.
Getting there
Departures from Denarau marina, fifteen minutes from Nadi. The catamaran serves the islands several times a day.
What the price covers
paid boat transfer; some islands charge a landing fee
What to bring
- Mask and snorkel
- Reef shoes

Rules on site
The cyclone season runs from November to April and crossings are cancelled without notice. Non-biodegradable sunscreen damages the coral and is discouraged at the snorkelling sites.
