The Sung Sot cave — 'the cave of surprise' — was found by Frenchmen in 1901 on Bo Hon island. It consists of two successive chambers, the second running to several thousand square metres with a vault thirty metres up.
It is lit by coloured floodlights, which displeases some people and is part of the Vietnamese approach to caves. The route is made up of steps and walkways, one-way, and comes out through an opening onto the bay — the best moment of the visit.
Getting there
On Bo Hon island, reachable only by boat: it is a stop on every bay cruise.
What the price covers
included in the bay entry fee; the boat is separate
What to bring
- Walking shoes
- Headlamp
Rules on site
A hundred and twenty steps climb from the landing, and the interior is very damp and slippery: closed shoes. Every cruise calls here at the same time — it is the busiest point in the bay mid-morning.
