Wynwood was a district of abandoned garment warehouses. In 2009 the developer Tony Goldman bought a block of windowless sheds and turned their blank walls into canvases: that was the beginning of the Wynwood Walls, a courtyard of monumental murals renewed each year.
The whole district followed. The Walls are now ticketed, but most of the murals are in the surrounding streets, free: NW 2nd Avenue and the cross streets between 22nd and 29th hold the most walls, and they change constantly.
Getting there
Bus from downtown, or the free Wynwood trolley. The district is walked, but it runs several blocks each way.
What to bring
- 1.5 L of water
- Cap
Rules on site
The Wynwood Walls are ticketed; the surrounding streets are free and cover more murals. There is no shade between the warehouses: avoid the middle of the day in summer.
