The Australian War Memorial is at once a memorial, a museum and an archive. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier lies in the Hall of Memory, under a mosaic dome, and the Roll of Honour carries the hundred and three thousand names of Australians killed in war.
Every evening before closing, the Last Post Ceremony is held: the story of one of those hundred and three thousand is told, then the Last Post is sounded. The galleries hold whole aircraft, including a Lancaster bomber and a Japanese fighter, and an entire section on Gallipoli.
Getting there
At the end of Anzac Parade, on the axis with Parliament House. Bus from central Canberra, or twenty minutes on foot.
Hours
Last Post ceremony every day in the late afternoon
