Anjuna Flea Market
A hippie market born in the 1960s, now a kilometre of stalls by the sea.
Duration
1 hr 30 min – 3 hrs
Best time
Wednesday, late afternoon
Open
Wednesdays only
Entry price
Free
The Anjuna flea market began in the 1960s: Western travellers settled in Goa sold their belongings there to fund the next leg. It was held on Wednesdays, and it is still held on Wednesdays.
It has changed a great deal — most of the sellers now come from Rajasthan, Karnataka and Kashmir, and much of the stock is mass-produced. It remains a kilometre of stalls by the sea, and haggling is the rule: the opening price starts at triple.
Getting there
Anjuna beach, in north Goa. Scooter or taxi from Baga or Calangute, twenty minutes.
Hours
Wednesdays, November to April
What to bring
- Headlamp
- International driving permit
Rules on site
The market runs on Wednesday only, and it shrinks out of season, May to October. The opening price starts at triple: offering a third and working up is the normal way.
