Lagoa da Conceição is a twenty-square-kilometre brackish lagoon in the middle of Santa Catarina island, joined to the sea by a narrow channel. It is the social heart of Florianópolis.
Its shore is edged by the white dunes of Joaquina, and the wind there is steady: it is the island's windsurfing and kiting water, flat and warm. The village of Lagoa, on the western shore, holds the bars and restaurants, and the district is Brazil's main hub for remote workers.
Getting there
In the middle of the island, twenty minutes by bus from central Florianópolis. The district is walked.

Rules on site
The lagoon's water quality is uneven and swimming bans are issued in some summers: check before going in. The Joaquina dunes are crossed on foot between the lagoon and the beach.
