The market hall opened in 1885 and it has stayed a market for residents, not a resort market: producers from the Basque Country and Béarn come every morning, and the town does its shopping here.
You find Espelette peppers on strings, Ossau-Iraty sheep's cheeses, Bayonne ham aged eighteen months, and fish landed at Saint-Jean-de-Luz. Around the hall, the pintxos bars serve standing from midday, and that is where the real business happens.
Getting there
Rue des Halles, in central Biarritz, five minutes on foot from the Grande Plage.
Hours
Every morning, until early afternoon
Rules on site
The hall closes in the early afternoon; the bars around it stay open. Parking in the centre is difficult and paid all year.
