Meno is the middle island and the smallest: a few hundred inhabitants, a salt lake in the centre, no nightlife. Those who find Trawangan too loud and Air too much in between come here.
Some thirty metres off the north-west shore, forty-eight life-size figures stand in a circle in three to five metres of water, placed in 2016 as the base for an artificial reef. They grow more coral and fish year by year, and you swim out to them from the beach, with no boat.
Getting there
Public shuttle between the three Gilis several times a day, ten minutes from Trawangan. Or a direct crossing from Bangsal.
Rules on site
The current between Meno and Air runs hard at mid-tide and sets offshore: swim along the shore, never in the channel. The turtles are protected — do not touch them or ride them.
