Jozani is Zanzibar's only national park and it holds the Zanzibar red colobus, an endemic monkey found nowhere else: around six thousand remain, all on this island.
They are used to visitors and allow an approach to within a few metres, which is unusual for wild primates. The park also includes a timber boardwalk over mangrove, and a saltwater palm forest. The visit is short — an hour and a half — and combines with the east coast.
Getting there
Thirty-five kilometres south-east of Stone Town, an hour by road on the way to the east coast.

Rules on site
Keep three metres back and never feed them: they pass on and catch human diseases, which is the main threat to the species. The guided visit is compulsory and included in the ticket.
