The Platteklip Gorge paths reach the same summit free of charge, in two hours. And the cable car closes as soon as the wind gets up: check their site in the morning before paying for a taxi for nothing.

The marked bypass avoids the rungs and chains near the top: a quarter of an hour more, and the question of heights is settled. On full-moon evenings the path is busy all night — the best time to go, still with a head torch, and never alone.
